The Wolverine is in theaters now, here's how to catch up on iTunes

The Wolverine, the sequel to the original X-Men trilogy, the X-Men: First Class reboot, and the X-Men Origins: Wolverine film, is now in theaters, putting Hugh Jackman back behind the claws of everyone's favorite berserker Canadian mutant. Based on Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's seminal Wolverine mini series, which first brought elements of Samurai to the character, it could be the best of the series to date. Or it could be a fastball special straight to box-office bomb. We'll have to watch and see. In the meantime, you can get your fill of all the cinematic X-Men and Wolverine action to date, as well as the comic that started it all, on your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac, right from iTunes today!

Personally, I really liked the first two X-Men movies, which Bryan Singer directed. They never got the funding or support from FOX that they needed to truly knock it out the park, but were turned out amazingly well in spite of all that. The third film was rushed and poorly done, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine was dreadful. The reboot, First Class, was good but the selection of X-Men they chose for it was disappointing. The Wolverine mini-series was fantastic, compromising a bit of the savagery of the original character to add a layer of nobility, and destroying Logan to build him back up. (There's no such person as James Howlett, sorry.)

I wasn't as big a fan of the follow-up Kitty Pride and Wolverine mini-series (though it gave Joss Whedon a great throw-away line in Astonishing X-men, decades later), and while I found some of Mark Millar's Wolverine: Enemy of the State and Old Man Logan stories interesting, they're also undisciplined enough to be annoying at times. If you have any well loved - or hated - Wolverine stories, let me know!
