Up to 75% of the body?s weight is made up of water and we all have to drink a significant amount of water to replace routine water loss.? Dehydration occurs when the amount of water leaving the body is greater than the amount being taken in.? And summer time is when the risk of dehydration soars along with the temperature.? One way to make sure we beat the heat, chill out and drink enough water is to make some cool summer beverages.
Every year we are part of a large group of friends from all over Canada and the States who meet to enjoy a long weekend of summer fun, frolic and feasting.
We assign ourselves to food categories like appetizers, salads, soups, side dishes, main courses, breads, desserts and beverages a year in advance. Then, when the time comes, we come together, man our stations and feed the masses.
This year I?m assigned to the beverages group and below are recipes for a dozen of the cool summer drinks we will be providing to rehydrate and chill out.

Decaffeinating Green Tea
The only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea is insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine. However, green tea contains less caffeine than coffee and you can decaffeinate it very easily.
All you have to do is steep the tea for 45 seconds in hot water and then pour off the liquid. Next, add more hot water and steep as you normally would to brew a cup of that tea. Up to 80 percent of the caffeine is released in the first infusion of water, so only minimal amounts will remain when you add water the second time. This method eliminates very little of the tea?s flavor and aroma.
Sugar syrup for iced tea
Mix 1 cup (250 mL) each granulated sugar and boiling water until clear and the sugar is dissolved for 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) of sugar syrup.
